In the life of every believer, there are moments of hardship when one feels overwhelmed by trials.

In such moments, Islam teaches us to turn to Allah, entrust our concerns to Him, and seek His help.

One of the most moving invocations found in the Qur’an is that of Prophet Nuh, peace be upon him, when he called upon Allah for help in the face of an overwhelming situation.

Here is the invocation in video:

The Invocation of Nuh: A Powerful Supplication

Allah mentions this invocation of Prophet Nuh in the Qur’an:

Arabic:

رَبِّ إِنِّي مَغْلُوبٌ فَانْتَصِرْ

Transliteration:

Rabbi inni maghlubun fantasir.

Translation:

“My Lord, I am overcome, so help me.”

This invocation is taken from Surah Al-Qamar, verse 10:

He called upon his Lord, saying:

“Indeed, I am overpowered, so help.”

The Context of This Invocation

Prophet Nuh, peace be upon him, was sent to his people to call them to the exclusive worship of Allah.

However, despite his constant and tireless efforts, his people remained arrogant and resistant, rejecting both him and his message.

After 950 years of patience, perseverance, and endurance, Nuh turned to Allah with this concise yet powerful supplication.

This invocation represents a state of complete submission and reliance upon Allah, especially when one feels trapped and unable to move forward by one’s own strength.

Spiritual Lessons from the Invocation of Nuh

1. Turning to Allah in Moments of Weakness

When we face trials, this invocation reminds us that our first response should be to ask Allah for help.

Allah says:

“Call upon Me; I will respond to you.”

(Surah Ghafir, 40:60)

2. The Power of Invocation

Although the words are simple and short, this supplication expresses a sincere and desperate call for help.

It teaches us that the effectiveness of a dua does not depend on its length, but on the sincerity and faith with which it is made.

3. Hope in Divine Justice

Prophet Nuh placed his trust in Allah, knowing that only He could grant him victory and justice in the face of oppression.

How Can We Use This Invocation Today?

1. In Moments of Distress

When facing overwhelming situations, recite this invocation to ask Allah for help with humility and sincerity.

2. During Prayer

Include this invocation in your prostrations (sujood) or after prayer, when you are in a state of closeness to Allah.

3. In the Face of Oppression or Injustice

If you are a victim of injustice or feel powerless, use this invocation to ask for divine justice and intervention.

The Universal Lesson from the Story of Nuh

The story of Nuh, peace be upon him, reminds us that trials, no matter how difficult, are part of life. However, they should never lead us to despair.

Allah hears the invocations of His servants and responds to those who call upon Him with faith.

Indeed, after the invocation of Nuh, Allah says in the Qur’an:

“So We opened the gates of the heaven with rain pouring down.”

(Surah Al-Qamar, 54:11)

This shows that Allah always responds in the way He knows to be best for His servants.

The invocation of Prophet Nuh is a reminder for every believer that, in the face of helplessness, there is always an open door: the door of Allah.
