Desire, longing, and hope are inseparable from human life. Sometimes they become necessities; other times, they grow uncontrollably and consume the heart. Islam guides believers to channel their wishes through supplication (du'a)—a means of seeking blessings, guidance, and fulfillment from Allah. From the moment of birth until death, humans remain bound to their wishes, and Islam provides the best way to align these desires with divine wisdom.
Dua for Protection from the Evil Eye (From the Quran)
When a person admires something beautiful or beneficial, they should recite a supplication to prevent harm caused by envy or the evil eye.
بَارَكَ اللهُ لَك
بَارَكَ اللهُ عَلَيْك
Baarakallahu laka, baarakallahu ‘alayk.
The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “If you see something good in your brother, yourself, or your wealth that you find impressive, invoke blessings for it, for the evil eye is indeed real.” Say: “O Allah, bless him.” The evil eye occurs when admiration is expressed without invoking Allah’s blessing, unintentionally causing harm.

Dua for Traveling
It is a Sunnah (practice of the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him) to recite the following supplication when setting out on a journey:
سُبْحَانَ الَّذِي سَخَّرَ لَنَا هَذَا وَمَا كُنَّا لَهُ مُقْرِنِينَ وَإِنَّا إِلَىٰ رَبِّنَا لَمُنقَلِبُونَ
Subhanalladhi sakhkhara lana hadha wa ma kunna lahu muqrineen. Wa inna ila Rabbina lamunqaliboon.
“Glory be to Him Who has subjected this to us, though we could not have controlled it by our own efforts. Surely, to our Lord, we are returning.” (Quran 43:13–14)
Reciting this dua before traveling invokes Allah’s protection, safety, and blessings for the entire journey.
Dua for Success in Getting a Job
To seek Allah’s favor when applying for a job or awaiting results, recite this supplication from the Quran:
رَبِّ إِنِّي لِمَا أَنزَلْتَ إِلَيَّ مِنْ خَيْرٍ فَقِيرٌ
Rabbi inni lima anzalta ilayya min khayrin faqeer.
“O my Lord! Truly, I am in need of whatever good You bestow upon me.” (Quran 28:24)
Recite this dua sincerely and consistently before and after interviews or job applications. Combine it with effort, preparation, and trust in Allah’s decree. May Allah bless you with success and the best opportunities. Ameen.
Conclusion
Islam is a complete way of life that teaches moderation in all matters, including our desires. One’s wishes should remain within the limits set by Allah—only those aligned with His guidance bring true benefit. For every need, big or small, Islam teaches us to ask Allah directly. Even for something as simple as a broken shoelace, turn to Him in supplication.
