Islamic Supplication - Dua for Wishing Well to Others: Teachings and Examples

In Islam, supplication, or “du’a” in Arabic, is a fundamental act of devotion that allows believers to communicate directly with Allah, the Almighty. One form of supplication is wishing well for someone. According to Anas Ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said, “None of you truly believes until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself.”

This sincere prayer, uttered with deep benevolence and pure intention, is a powerful way to express our love and desire for the prosperity and happiness of our loved ones. In this article, we will explore the importance of this supplication through the teachings of the Quran and the authentic Hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). We will also provide examples of Arabic invocations, along with their transliteration and translation in English.

1.Invitation to Benevolence in the Quran:

The Quran, the word of Allah revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), encourages believers to show kindness to others. Allah says, “And do not make your hand [as] chained to your neck or extend it completely and [thereby] become blamed and insolvent” (Quran, Surah Al-Isra, verse 29). This verse emphasizes the importance of moderation in our actions and words, as well as the significance of acting kindly toward others.

2. The Power of Benevolent Wishes:

The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) taught that our benevolent wishes for others are granted. He said, “The supplication of a Muslim for his brother in his absence will certainly be answered. Every time he makes a supplication for good for his brother, the angel appointed for this particular task says: ‘Ameen! May it be for you, too.‘” (Sahih Muslim). This means that when we wish well for someone, Allah may bless that person and respond to our prayers.
