Invocation Against Injustice in Islam: Seeking Divine Justice

The practice of invocation, or “du’a” in Arabic, is an essential pillar of Islamic faith, offering believers a direct means of communication with Allah, the Almighty. Among the significant invocations is one against injustice—a profound and sincere prayer to implore divine justice and equity in a world marked by oppression and abuse. In this article, we will delve into the importance of this invocation through Quranic teachings and authentic Hadiths of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), providing examples of Arabic invocations along with their transliteration and English translation.

1.The Call for Justice in the Quran

The Quran, Allah’s revelation to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), emphasizes the importance of justice and firmly condemns injustice. Allah says:

“O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm for Allah, witnesses in justice, and do not let the hatred of a people prevent you from being just. Be just; that is nearer to righteousness.” (Quran, Surah Al-Ma’idah, 5:8)

This verse underscores the significance of justice as a fundamental component of Muslim faith.

1.The Power of Invocation Against Injustice

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught believers that invocation against injustice is answered. He said:

“There is no believer’s invocation, between Allah and him, except that it is responded to, and he does not ask for anything sinful or for the breaking of family ties.” (Sahih Muslim)

This highlights the effectiveness of invocation in beseeching divine justice and an end to injustice.

2. Examples of Arabic Invocations, Transliteration, and Translation:

A. Invocation for Justice and Equity:

Arabic:

“اللهم انصر الظالمين وارزق الظلمة منهم هدىً”

B. Invocation for the End of Injustice:

Arabic:

“اللهم انصر المظلومين واجعل كيدهم في نحرهم”

Phonetic: “Allahumma insur al-mazlumīna waj’al kaydahum fī nuhurihim.”
