The Power of Supplication - Dua: Protection Against Occult Evil in Islam

Supplication, or “du’a” in Arabic, is an essential element of Islamic faith, providing believers with a means to seek divine protection and communicate directly with Allah, the Almighty. Among the crucial supplications is the one against occult evil—a potent prayer for safeguarding against unseen forces and negative influences.

In this article, we delve into the importance of this invocation through the teachings of the Quran and the authentic Hadiths of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). We also provide examples of Arabic invocations along with their transliteration and English translation.

1. Seeking Protection Against Occult Evil in the Quran

The Quran, the word of Allah revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), instructs believers to seek protection against occult evil. Allah says:

“And if harm should touch you, it is [caused by] what your hands have earned.” (Quran, Surah An-Nisa, verse 79)

This verse reminds believers that trials and afflictions can originate from unseen sources, highlighting the need for divine protection.

2. The Power of Supplication - Dua against Occult Evil

Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught that supplication against occult evil is a source of protection. He said:

“Whoever recites the last two verses of Surah Al-Baqara at night, they will suffice for him.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari)

This demonstrates that reciting specific portions of the Quran can offer protection against occult evil.

3. Prophetic Invocations - Dua in Arabic, Transliteration, and Translation:

A. General Protection Invocation:

Arabic:

“أعوذ بكلمات الله التامات من شر ما خلق”

Phonetic: “A’udhu bikalimatillahi at-tammati min sharri ma khalaq.”

Translation: “I seek refuge in the perfect words of Allah from the evil of His creation.”

B. Invocation - Dua to Ward off Demons:

Arabic:

“اللهم إني أعوذ بك من الشياطين وأعوذ بك رب أن يحضرون”

Phonetic: “Allahumma inni a’udhu bika min ash-shayatin wa a’udhu bika rabb an yahdurun.”

Translation: “O Allah, I seek refuge in You from the devils, and I seek refuge in You, my Lord, that they do not approach me.”

C. Invocation - Dua for Family and Home Protection:

Arabic:

“بسم الله الذي لا يضر مع اسمه شيء في الأرض ولا في السماء وهو السميع العليم”

Phonetic: “Bismillahi alladhi la yadurru ma’a ismihi shay’un fil-ardi wa la fis-sama’i wa huwa as-sami’u al-alim.”

Translation: “In the name of Allah, with His name, nothing on earth or in the heavens can harm, and He is the Hearer, the Knower.”
