Introduction to Reading in Arabic
In this eighth lesson for learning Arabic, we will practice all the concepts studied previously in order to put Arabic word reading into practice. To recap the topics we have covered:
- Introduction to the Arabic alphabet
- Short vowels of the Arabic alphabet
- Double end vowels – Tanween
- Long vowels
- Absence of vowel – Soukoun
- Letter doubling – Shadda
- Connecting Arabic letters
Remember that Arabic is written and read from right to left.
The table below shows the letters individually. To listen to each word, click on the audio player below the words. You will hear the final reading of the word in the last column.
Pay attention to the connection of letters in Arabic. Don’t forget that Arabic letters can have different forms depending on their position in the word: beginning, middle, and end.

This Arabic lesson is now complete. You are now able to read in Arabic. You can therefore start learning the rules of the Arabic language and study the Tajweed rules for reading the Holy Quran.
