The Intriguing Tale of Prophet Issa (Jesus) in Islamic Tradition

Prophet Issa (A.S), commonly known in the Christian world as 'Jesus Christ, ' holds a revered place in Islamic history. His miraculous birth and profound teachings underscore the monotheistic message of Islam. While Muslims profoundly respect Prophet Issa, their understanding diverges from Christian beliefs in certain key aspects.

The Miraculous Birth of Prophet Issa (Jesus)

In Islamic tradition, Prophet Issa's birth to Maryam (A.S), also known as 'Mary, ' is deemed as nothing short of a miracle. As a virgin, she retreated to the eastern part of the city when the time came for her delivery. Choosing seclusion over public scrutiny, she sought solace beneath a palm tree, which miraculously provided her sustenance. Here, she gave birth to Hazrat Issa (A.S).

Marking the beginning of his extraordinary life, Issa's ability to speak as an infant served as one of his first miracles. He proclaimed his mother’s purity against societal accusations and declared himself a Prophet of Allah (SWT), emphasizing the virtues of prayer, charity, and maternal respect (Al Quran, 19: 30-33).

Understanding the Personality and Teachings of Prophet Issa

Prophet Issa stands tall among the righteous Prophets of Islam. Bestowed upon him was the holy book ‘Injil’ or 'Bible, ' and wisdom directly from Allah (SWT). This divine guidance aimed to rectify the misled and reiterate the path of righteousness.

His life was a testament to Allah's might, with the Holy Quran narrating numerous miracles he performed. From breathing life into clay birds to healing the blind and the lepers, and even resurrecting the dead, his divine capabilities remain unparalleled.

Furthermore, Prophet Issa exhibited immense kindness, not only towards his beloved mother, Maryam but to all of humanity. He ardently defended her honor when questions arose about his miraculous existence.

Prophet Issa's Role in the Grand Day of Judgement

One of the significant distinctions between Islamic and Christian beliefs concerning Prophet Issa lies in his crucifixion. Islam maintains that Prophet Issa (A.S) was neither crucified nor killed but was ascended by Allah (SWT) to the heavens. This belief was further reinforced when the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) encountered him during his night journey of Me’raj.

Muslims ardently believe in the second coming of Hazrat Issa (A.S). He is prophesied to return as a warrior to defeat the Dajjal (False Messiah) and safeguard believers.

A Sahih Muslim hadith details this momentous event, stating, “Allah will send Maseeh ibn Maryam (Messiah son of Mary). Thus, he will descend near the white eastern minaret of Damascus, clad in two yellow sheets, leaning on the shoulders of two angels.”

Envisioned as a figure of moderate height, with luminous, cascading hair and a radiant complexion, his mere presence is believed to be awe-inspiring. The scene is said to unfold during the Fajr prayer, led by Imam Mehdi, against the backdrop of an impending war with Dajjal. Amidst the tense atmosphere, Prophet Issa (A.S) will descend, bringing hope and strength to the believers.

As the righteous witness this divine descent near the Minaret in Damascus, Prophet Issa, upon introductions, will rally the people against Dajjal. Following the communal prayer led by Imam Mehdi, Prophet Issa (AS) will face off against Dajjal. The culmination of this epic battle will usher in an era of unparalleled peace and harmony.

In Conclusion

Prophet Issa's (Jesus') role in Islamic history remains crucial. Serving as a beacon of hope, righteousness, and divine wonder, his life and teachings offer profound lessons. As Muslims await his prophesied return, his narrative serves as a bridge between Islamic and Christian traditions, reiterating the commonalities these two great religions share.
