The Power of Supplication: The Dua of the Oppressed in Islam

The Power of Supplication: The Dua of the Oppressed in Islam

Invocation, or “du’a” in Arabic, is an essential practice in Islam, providing believers with a direct means to connect with Allah, the Almighty. Among the most profound types of supplications is the du’a of the oppressed. This sincere prayer represents the desperate cry of a troubled soul seeking refuge and justice from Allah. In this article, we will explore the significance of this invocation through the teachings of the Quran and the authentic Hadiths of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). We will also provide examples of Arabic invocations along with their transliteration and English translation.

1. Invitation to Compassion and Justice in the Quran:

The Quran, Allah’s word revealed to Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), emphasizes compassion and justice towards the oppressed. Allah says:

“And those who have been unjustly oppressed, We will certainly give them power, and We will certainly give them strength in the land, and We will certainly show Pharaoh and his minister and their hosts from them what they feared.” (Quran, Surah Al-A’raf, Verse 31)

This verse highlights that Allah stands with the oppressed and does not tolerate injustice.

2. The Power of the Du'a of the Oppressed:

Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) taught that the supplication of the oppressed is answered. He said, “There is nothing more powerful than the supplication of the oppressed.” (Jami’ at-Tirmidhi)

This underscores the significance and effectiveness of the du’a of the oppressed in seeking justice and relief.

3. Examples of Arabic Du'as, Transliteration, and Translation:

A. Du'a of the Oppressed for Justice:

Arabic:

“اللهم انصر المظلومين وانصرني على من ظلمني”

Transliteration: “Allahumma insur al-mazlumina wa insurni ‘ala man zalamani.”

Translation: “O Allah, support the oppressed and support me against those who have wronged me.”

B. Du'a of the Oppressed for Relief:

Arabic:

“اللهم اكشف عن المعترضين وارحم المظلومين وأنصر الضعفاء”

Transliteration: “Allahumma kshif ‘an al-mu’taridina wa rahim al-mazlumina wa ansur al-du’afa.”

Translation: “O Allah, unveil the deceitful, have mercy on the oppressed, and aid the weak.”

C. Du'a of the Oppressed for Inner Peace:

Arabic:

“اللهم اجعل قلبي مطمئناً واجعل لي من لدنك ولياً”

Transliteration: “Allahumma ij’al qalbi mutma’inan waj’al li min ladunika waliyya.”

Translation: “O Allah, make my heart content and grant me a protector from You.”
